Grand Tasting Gambero Rosso e Masterclass Vini Top 10

The Gambero Rosso Grand Tasting 2025, held in Milan and later in Turin, is one of the most prestigious annual events dedicated to Italian fine wine. A highly selective tasting reserved for wines that represent the highest expression of identity, authenticity and irreproducibility, it brings together critics, professionals and international trade from all over the world.

On this distinguished stage, Tenuta del Travale took part with Eleuteria Special Edition 2021, officially included among the Rare Wines of the Gambero Rosso Vini d’Italia 2025 Guide and awarded an exceptional 97/100 score.

What Does “Rare Wine” Really Mean?

During the Grand Tasting in Milan, wine critic Giuseppe Carrus offered a clear and authoritative explanation of what defines a Rare Wine, going far beyond the idea of limited production:

“Rarity is not defined solely by quantity. What truly makes these wines rare is that they have something unique to tell: a specific vintage, a particular condition — sometimes even climatic — that exists only in that moment and will likely never occur again.”

This vision perfectly reflects the philosophy of Tenuta del Travale, where wine is conceived as an unrepeatable agricultural expression, deeply rooted in place and time.

Carrus also underlined the responsibility of the Guide in giving visibility to these wines:

“We could not leave these wines out of the Vini d’Italia Guide, which travels all over the world and is a fundamental tool for international trade. Our role is to tell the story of these Italian gems.”

From 40,000 Wines to Just 50 Rare Wines

The scale of this recognition becomes clear when looking at the numbers:

“From around 40,000 wines reviewed each year, the selection narrows to just over 500 Three Glasses wines, and finally to only 50 Rare Wines.”

Belonging to this extremely restricted group means standing beyond excellence. For this reason, Gambero Rosso decided for the first time to assign Rare Wines a numerical score out of 100, applying particularly strict criteria:

“These wines are not simply potential Three Glasses winners; they are something more. That is why we chose to score them using a much more rigorous approach than Anglo-Saxon models.”

The 97/100 score awarded to Eleuteria Special Edition 2021 confirms its position among the most outstanding Italian wines on an international level.

Eleuteria Special Edition 2021: A Wine That Exists Only Once

Produced from Nerello Mascalese grown in heroic viticulture conditions, Eleuteria Special Edition 2021 is fermented with whole clusters and aged for over 20 months in cocciopesto amphora. Every choice, from vineyard to cellar, is guided by respect for the vintage and the territory.

This wine fully embodies the concept of rarity described by Carrus: a wine that could not be produced anywhere else, nor in any other year. The amphora ageing, the mountain terroir of Calabria, the altitude and the artisanal approach shape a wine that does not follow trends, but preserves identity.

Eleuteria is a wine born from a specific balance of climate, soil and human decisions — a balance that belongs to one moment only.

Tenuta del Travale at the Grand Tasting

Participating in the Grand Tastings of Milan and Turin was not merely a prestigious showcase for Tenuta del Travale, but a moment of meaningful dialogue with critics, professionals and international trade. In a context where the Vini d’Italia Guide is presented in more than thirty stages worldwide, Eleuteria Special Edition 2021 stands as an ambassador of a deep, cultured and uncompromising Calabrian wine identity.

A rare wine, not because it is difficult to find, but because it is impossible to replicate.
